Rain Rain Don't Go Away
As I trolled my Facebook feed this rather honest and simple quote was posted by our friend Dave Conscious. It fits and sums up the many thoughts swirling around in my mind about love and how we treat those we say we love.
Rain will be used as the physical metaphor for something as illusive and intangible as LOVE...but what is it about rain that we need so much but would rather it come back another day?
When I was growing up in what is called a 'ghetto' area I often went to sleep to countless fights and arguments between my neighbours or my own family members. I found deep satisfying solace in the rain drops as they fell on my rooftop, for in my childlike mind I thought those fighting would not want to get wet by the rain, and they would run and go in their homes making it quiet again.
This gave birth to my extreme love of rain and storms. I welcome news reports of pending bad weather and see it as a brief relief from argument. Love acts in a similar way. For a small portion of the many moments we experience, there is a brief peace, brought about because of love. We put aside our differences and see past the issues of the other person and head for the shelter, either together or separate.
The thunder that accompanies the storm is not a separate entity as we have termed it, but it is only the power of the lightning being realized in sound. So thunder and lightning are one and the same. But how can electricity and water work together as they do in the manifestation of a storm? This is the other side of love...
Sometimes we can love others so much that we cause so much friction that it is more destructive than constructive. So we raise our voices in order to be heard. We shout and scream at our partners in order to communicate our love for them. Kavan and I have such an interesting way of communicating this kind of love that you would never hear our thunder...but you will definitely see our lightning. We sharpen each other, we spar, we disagree, but we help each other to grow from the rain that is in our midst.
We do not seek to change each other, but we take all that is in our nature and it works to help us achieve our purpose.
