De Clay Oven Experience
KJ: Diosa and I spoke about eating at different establishments in Barbados and giving our reviews of the customer service, food and atmosphere of each place. Today, we visited De Clay Oven Pizzeria and Bar. Wifey saw the ad on Instagram and since we were in the area, having come back from experiencing Bubble Ball war and dubbing her "Bubble wife" (she'll explain later), we decided to stop by.
CE: The waitress/BarLady (Sophie) was very professional, thoughtful and a charming saleswoman. I'll let Diosa explain more if she wishes.
Food: I ordered the 10" Wukkup & Rum Pizza and Diosa ordered the Alfredo pasta with mince meat, ham, Parmesan and garlic Bread to share between the three of us, a Shirely Temple for Jadon ๐ and a Vanilla Escape Cocktail for myself.
L to R: Alfredo Pasta and Wukkup and Rum Pizza |
The pizza crust was how I liked it, thin and crispy. Plantain on pizza for me was a new and exciting addition which married well with the pizza sauce and cheese. The pork may have been infused with the essence of rum though. It was good overall.
Pizza Rating: 8/10
The Pasta was AMAZING, maybe one of the better Alfredo Pastas I've had recently. Very creamy, light, fresh and well cooked. I ain't get no garlic bread tho... ๐Diosa is the pasta lady, so look out for her taste test.
Pasta Rating: 9/10
DJ: Honey, ofcourse I will add my few* Laugh* words about the experience.
Lately, I have been very awkward with meeting new people. Stumbling over my words, saying the wrong things and having long and awkward silences where there is to be words. So meeting Sophie who was extremely welcoming and didn't let us just stand at the door peeping, but came up to us and encouraged our willingness to patronize the establishment was great.
Honestly, she came right after I mentioned to Kavan that an 18 inch pizza at Opa in Sky Mall was roughly $2 more than their 14" pizza, and I was just about to suggest we shift the spot and head there instead. Sophie charmed us, and she seemed not to notice my awkwardness and allowed us to know exactly what they had to offer.
I rated her customer service with a 9.5 as she also charmed our very picky Jadon, who was in a mood, to try something absolutely new...the shirley temple. As we waited for the food, we took advantage of the warm sunlight that made for some awesome selfie pics...then the food came. My first thought was about the scarce supply of food on the plate for the price, then I remembered we were on the platinum coast.
One bite of the pasta as I was a little peckish resulted in a cosmic explosion of flavors in my mouth, and I secretly prayed that the pizza the guys ordered would be enough for them and I wouldn't have to share. The prayer was a bad one, I know, so I shared. Sophie brought out a special plate for Jadon, so he could enjoy his food like a big kid, and that also bumped up her rating in my eyes.
My boys tried the pasta and loved it as well, but the only thing I got off the pizza was plantain and glazed onions Jadon did not want to eat....so my pizza rating will be irrelevant.
I would return to De Clay Oven, and of course send as many friends over to try the spot...so overall I give the experience a rating of 8/10.
KJ: Yeah the price was nice too, $73 for everything. BDS. Perhaps the NSRL isn't so bad after all. After all, Kellman said it was one of the "most exciting things" to happen to Barbados.... (my sarcasm is obvious and intended.)
